Chelsea v Southampton betting

November 30th, 2013

Southampton travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday, having suffered just their second defeat of the season last weekend at Arsenal.

That loss ended an unbeaten 8 game streak and Mauricio Pochettino's side have a record of W2, D2, L2 on the road this season, while Chelsea are unbeaten at home (W5, D1).

Jose Mourinho is still to lose a match at Stamford Bridge, so an away win would be a surprise here, although it did take a highly controversial stoppage-time penalty to keep that record intact in Chelsea’s last home game against West Brom.

The Saints have scored just 4 goals and conceded only 5 on the road this season and face a Chelsea side without injured striker Samuel Eto'o, so a low scoring game would be no surprise on Sunday and can be backed at evens with Sky Bet or Ladbrokes.

Frank Lampard has scored 4 goals in his last 5 league appearances against Southampton and the 35-year-old midfielder ended his worst Premier League goal scoring run in a decade with two goals against West Ham last weekend - to end a 10-match scoreless run. He can be backed at 9/1 with Bet365 or BetVictor to score first in this game.

If the visitors are to score, that goal will most likely come from Rickie Lambert - who scored in both league games against Chelsea last season. Lambert can be backed at best odds of 12/1 to score first and 4/1 to score at any time - both with BetVictor.
