Saturday Horse Racing Tips
The Hennessy dominates today’s card at Newbury and you can read our full preview here.
The two big supporting handicaps are really trappy contests as they feature a lot of out of form, but potentially dangerously handicapped, horses.
That means we could be in for a surprise or two and in the Fulke Walwyn Handicap our shortlist was full of runners trading at double figure prices.
Bet365 Handicap Chase
Ian Williams’ yard has really started to fire in the last week or so, which makes top weight Solix a very interesting outsider. This former Nicky Henderson inmate was rated 150 at his peak and looked to have the world at his hoofs when he won back to back novice chases at Ascot and Cheltenham. Both those successes were on decent ground and the hope is that the better going today can bring about something of a revival.
Mr Gardner, another ex-Henderson horse, has a similar profile and could be dangerous, whilst the ground may have gone against the unexposed Valoroso, so the other two to concentrate on our Tatenen and Hectors Choice.
Again, both have tumbled in the weights following some poor recent efforts, but the former is back over his best trip today, whilst the latter really bounces off this ground.
Their trainers couldn’t be in different form. Richard Rowe hasn’t had a winner for 234 days, whilst Richard Lee’s last six runners have finished 112331, but both have won off much higher marks and so, in the fear that either could bounce back to form today, we would suggest a small each way interest in both.

Bet365 Handicap Hurdle
Robert Walford’s last five runners have been similarly consistent having finished 13412 and we like the look of Aegean Dawn in the 1.50. He is another who looked destined for great things when he hacked up in competitive handicap hurdles in 2010, but he has only run twice since and has only once for Walford. He looks well handicapped on his best form, and trip and ground look ideal for this strong traveller.
Citizenship is interesting having joined Venetia Williams’ yard, whilst Batonnier is interesting based on his 2012 form, but Mischievous Milly is the other one to be on as she should really improve for her seasonal debut and the step up in trip.

|Mischievous Milly (ew)||1.50 Newbury||7/1
Hennessy Gold Cup Chase
We’ve continued to study the Hennessy overnight and we think our original selections should be supplemented with Triolo d’Alene. We still think the United House Gold Cup could be a key form line and the more we watch that race the more we think this horse could be the one to come out on top here.
