Tottenham v Liverpool betting
Tottenham welcome Liverpool to White Hart Lane on Sunday in what promises to be a fascinating game involving two teams that have real aspirations to be in the Champions League next season. The game is live on Sky Sports 1 from 4pm.
Spurs are the general 6/4 favourites to win what would be their seventh consecutive victory over Liverpool at White Hart Lane, while the Reds are a best priced 2/1 with Bet365, Sky Bet and Coral, with the draw a top priced 5/2 chance with Sky Bet and BetVictor.
Liverpool have been on fire this season - no team has had more shots on target than them this season, with no fewer than 97. Many have come the way of Luis Suarez, who has now scored 15 goals in his last 11 Premier League games. He is Liverpool’s most obvious goal scorer and the general 4/1 on him to net first here should be placed in any portfolio of first goal scorer bets.
Spurs’ Aaron Lennon doesn’t score many goals - but he has netted in two of the last three fixtures against Liverpool at White Hart Lane and he may be worth a small interest to score the first goal each way at 20/1 with Bet365.
Spurs have an altogether different problem and approach to football than Liverpool under Andres Villa-Boas. They have managed a meagre seven goals in front of their fans in North London - only Villa have a worse home record. However, this Liverpool side do give goals away - they have only managed one clean sheet in their last 12 games, so a bet on both teams to score at 13/20 with Ladbrokes is suggested.
This may be a good opportunity to take advantage of Betred’s moneyback offer should the game end 1-1, as that is the favoured correct score by the bookmakers. Incredibly, there have been four 2-1 Spurs victory in this fixture since the 2008/9 season - take Betfred’s 8/1 on another 2-1 to the Lilywhites.
No games involving two clubs have seen more penalties than Spurs and Liverpool encounters (17 have been awarded - the same number as Liverpool and Everton games). 11 of those have been at Anfield - but with both sides choc-a-bloc with dribblers it may still be worth backing there will a penalty awarded here at 3/1 with Stan James.
Finally, it may be worth having a bet on Liverpool scoring first in the first half. 68% of the Reds goals this season have been in the first half and being the away team you can get 33/20 with Ladbrokes that they net first in the first-half (it’s just 21/10 they score first).
