Man City v Chelsea betting
Manchester City host Chelsea in a mouthwatering clash on Monday night between the division's top goalscorers (68 scored) and its meanest defence (20 conceded).
City have won 17 of their 18 games in all competitions at the Etihad Stadium this season, including all 11 Premier League games - only European Champions Bayern Munich have managed to break that run.
Indeed, having overcome their wobbles on the road in the league, City have now won eight consecutive games and bookmakers make them favourites to win at best odds of 11/10 with Bet365, while Chelsea can be backed at 3/1 and the draw at 13/5 - both with Betfred.
However, Chelsea are still only 3 points behind City in the Premier League having lost just one of their last 13 games and conceding just 3 goals in their last 8 games - so if anyone can stem the tide of City's attack it is them. And they did win the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge 2-1, as Fernando Torres' capitalised on a defensive mix-up to score a late winner.
City's leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero is set to miss this game through injury, so Manuel Pellegrini is likely to start with Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo up front. Negredo has scored 16 goals in his last 13 games at the Etihad and looks the better bet to score first at odds of 5/1 with William Hill (as short as 7/2 elsewhere).
However, the problem with backing any particular City player to score first is that they have so many options, with the likes of Yaya Toure and David Silva just as capable of finding the net. And facing a side who have kept three successive clean sheets on the road, we'll steer clear of the goal-scorer markets in this game.
Five of Chelsea’s last eight Premier League games on a Monday have ended in a draw and we fancy Jose Mourinho to mastermind yet another here. However, rather than back a draw at 13/5, we recommend correct score bets on both 1-1 and 2-2 at best odds of 7/1 and 16/1 respectively - both with Ladbrokes.
