Wigan v Hull KR betting preview
Two sides in need of a pick-up meet at the DW Stadium on Friday, when Wigan entertain Hull KR in front of the live Sky cameras.
Wigan opened the season with a home reversal at the hands of Huddersfield, before following up with a routine win over Wakefield. Since then, Castleford have also taken full points against Wigan, and already the critics are wondering how big the hole left by Sam Tomkins is, and how they are going to fill it.
Hull KR are in a similar, if more familiar rut themselves, having lost 3 of their 4 opening Super League matches. The win of course came against Huddersfield, which was a terrific performance, but they’ve also come away empty handed from St Helens, and lost home ties to Leeds and Castleford.
With home advantage, this is certainly a Wigan win for the taking and the bookies have priced this up as an 18 point handicap. We don’t have that far out and had it chalked up at 16 points, so we’ll resist tipping anything in the handicap markets.
In the Try Scorer markets, Joe Burgess looks the real deal and has enjoyed a terrific start to the season. The academy produced youngster debuted last season for Wigan, playing twice and scoring once, and he’s built on that start tremendously.
He’s already scored in each of his three Super League matches this season and also bagged at Try against South Syndey in the World Club Challenge, got four in the warm-up match against New Zealand Warriors in preparation for that match, along with another four against Leigh in pre-season.
At 15/2 with 888sport he is long enough to chance for the first scorer on the night, while the 11/13 with 888sport about him scoring for a 6th consecutive match looks decent as well.
The match will be screened live on Sky Sports 1 at 8pm on Friday night.
