Hull City v Stoke City tips

August 23rd, 2014

Hull City host Stoke City on Sunday and the game is live on Sky Sports 1 from 1.30pm.

The Tigers can be backed at best odds of 6/4 with Bet365 and William Hill, while Stoke are available at 23/10 with BetVictor and the draw at 9/4 with Bet365.

Last season 180 minutes of football between these two sides furnished just one goal, while there have been just 11 goals scored in 6 Premier League between the clubs.

Hull conceded just 21 league goals in the 19 league games in front of their own fans last season and the first bet to have simply must be on ’Under 2.5 Goals’ at best odds of 8/15.

The low scoring draws are also strongly suggested. Stoke have drawn with Hull five times in nine games, while Stoke only won three away games last season - only two relegated sides had a worse record.

Rather than back 0-0, we suggest you back ’No Goalscorer’ in Coral’s First Goalscorer market at odds of 7/1 - most bookmakers offer just 11/2 or 6/1 on the 0-0 and this way you’ll also get paid out if the game finishes 1-0 or 0-1 courtesy of an own goal. We also recommend a bet on 1-1 at 6/1 with Ladbrokes.

Peter Crouch seems a bit too big a price at 9/1 to score the first goal with Bet365 (he’s 13/2 and 7/1 elsewhere), while Nikica Jelavic is too short, even at a top price of 6/1 with Coral and Paddy Power. He’s scored just five goals in his last 48 Premier League appearances and his confidence is desperately low.

Instead, we would rather have a speculative bet on his team mate, James Chester. The centre back is 33/1 to score the first goal, but when he hits the target he has a 66.67% scoring rate - and he scored the only goal for the Tigers in their 1-0 win at QPR last week. Back him each-way at that price with Bet365, who pay 1/3 odds for the place in this market - if your player scores at any time in the game.
