Italian Grand Prix 2014 tips
Formula One heads to Monza on Sunday, where the Tifosi will be desperately hoping that Ferrari can somehow pull something out of the back to give them some cheer in a dour season. The signs are pretty fair to be honest for them after a great performance in second practice on Friday saw then in 3rd and 4th.
The Ferrari package was decent enough at Spa - a similar low downforce track - and while we initially fancied the chances of Williams to post a pole position effort, the odds may be slightly too short now given they were unconvincing on Friday.
Being the fastest circuit on the calendar, the track should play to the strengths of the Mercedes engine which means not only Mercedes, but also Williams, McLaren and Force India, so all in all, it could be a weekend to forget for Red Bull.
Fernando Alonso is a 10/3 shot for the podium this weekend, but with the Mercedes pair expected to be on best behaviour, it could be better to chance the 6/1 available for Alonso winning without Mercedes. At 1/5 each way terms, you are potentially getting 6/5 about a top five finish, which compared to odds of 2/5 on Alonso in the Top 6 market looks pretty tasty.
Our other bet for the weekend should be on Nico Hulkenberg to finish in the top 6. Force India could be a strong package here and they didn’t really show their potential at Spa after a difficult weekend. Hulkenberg has finished inside the top 6 in half of his starts this season, so 10/3 with Paddy Power has to be a fair value bet here.
