Breeders Cup 2014 - Day 1 tips
The juveniles take centre stage at Santa Anita tonight on the opening day of the 2014 Breeders’ Cup and hopes are high for some European success to kick off the meeting.
Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf
As usual, Irish supremo, Aiden O’Brien, has big chances in both the colts and fillies’ races with War Envoy looking like one of his biggest chances across the two days, but in that contest we prefer Godolphin’s US trained runner, Imperia.
He is unlucky not to be coming into the race unbeaten as he was badly hampered on his debut, but he won cosily next time out beating two previous winners who line up here - Offering Plan and Startup Nation.
A hands and heels ride was enough to get the job done that day and he looks a really smart juvenile.
Despite War Envoy’s prominence in the market, Commemorative could prove pick of the home challengers and give the selection most to do, whilst Wet Sail and Danny Boy are interesting outsiders.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
In the fillies’ contest, the unbeaten Lady Eli really catches the eye as she comfortably disposed of three of today’s field when winning at Belmont Park last time out.
The yard won this in 2008 and our selection may have most to fear from her stablemate Partisan Politics, who was unlucky not to finish closer to Lady Eli last time out.
Sivoliere, who is having her first run in the States, also looks a danger and she just gets the nod as the backup choice as she may improve considerably for the combination of Lasix and faster ground.

Hennessy Gold Cup (ante-post)
We will have more tips for you tomorrow, when the new jump season really kicks into overdrive courtesy of big races at Ascot, Wetherby and Down Royal.
The switch in focus to the jumpers already has us looking ahead to the big races coming up in the winter and spring, and with that in mind we have an early ante-post selection for the Hennessy at the end of November.
The entries for the race have just been published and the stand out name amongst them has to be Fingal Bay, who looks set to return to chasing on an incredibly lenient mark given the superb form he showed over hurdles during last time campaign. That spell back over the smaller obstacles really got his career back on track and he is very well handicapped for a horse who was tipped to be a Gold Cup contender of the future when embarking on his chase career two seasons ago.
His last outing over fences was very disappointing, but he can be forgiven that blip and if he makes it to Newbury in one piece he could easily be half his current odds or shorter on the day.
