US Grand Prix 2014 tips
F1 heads back to Austin, Texas this weekend under a dark cloud of financial fair play which means we go racing with just 18 cars in the field. It shouldn’t affect the betting much, with Caterham and Marussia never likely to trouble the points positions, let alone the podium.
Lewis Hamilton looks set to dominate again, but we’ll take a speculative punt on Nico Rosberg, who looks a better investment at 5/2 than Hamilton does at 4/7. The each-way terms are paying 1/3 odds for a top 2 finish, which means you are getting 5/6 about a top two finish from the German, and with the pair likely to dominate proceedings comfortably, that looks a pretty tasty piece of insurance. Bet365 offer the 5/2.
The track looks to play to the strengths of the Red Bull chassis, which might frustrate Vettel, who is unlikely to be able to prosper due to starting from the pit lane as a penalty for taking a new engine unit. Daniel Ricciardo looked good in long run trim however and appeals at 11/4 to win ´without Mercedes´. He should be in a straight fight with Valterri Bottas in the Williams, but the flowing sections in the first part of the lap could see Ricciardo profit.
Finally, the timing sheets didn’t show Force India being especially impressive over a single flying lap in P2, but that disguised handy longer-run pace, and the 8/1 on Hulkenberg finishing in the Top 6 could have a better chance than the odds suggest. The German has found pace on circuits with higher degradation earlier this season, and while it has been a while since he finished in the top 6, he was strong early in the season and its not beyond the imagination that he could get another good result this weekend;
