Derby v Chelsea tips
Derby take on Chelsea in a Capital One Cup quarter-final on Tuesday and the game is live on SkySports 1 from 7.45pm.
Chelsea have an enviable record against lower league teams in this competition - they have won 14 and lost none of their last 16 against teams from the Championship and below, in a sequence that dates back to the last century!
So, understandably, the Blues are strong odds-on favourites to win this game in 90 minutes - the best price you’ll get is 8/15 with BetVictor, Paddy Power or William Hill, while The Rams are as big as 13/2 and the draw 7/2 - both with Bet365.
Alternatively, you can get odds of 1/4 with BetVictor on Chelsea qualifying for the semi-finals, while Derby are 7/2 with the same firm to reach the last 4.
Derby have progressed to this stage of the competition after beating Fulham 5-2 at Craven Cottage, having been 2-0 down after 45 minutes. Previous to that they defeated Reading, Charlton and Carlisle - without conceding a goal.
Chelsea meanwhile beat Bolton 2-1 at home and then Shrewsbury by the same scoreline - although only an 81st minute own goal saved their blushes at New Meadow.
Given the way the Blues have been playing this season it would be a huge surprise if they were to be knocked out here, especially with the strength and depth of their squad, and many will be banking on a high scoring away win.
But Derby are riding high in the Championship and their players will undoubtedly raise their game against the Premier League leaders, so we expect a much tighter game than some odds compilers think.
Steve McClaren´s side are currently in third place in the Championship and have only lost once in front of their own fans this season at Pride Park, conceding just 8 goals in 10 games. Chelsea, meanwhile, have won just half of their eight league away games, conceding 10.
We can see a low scoring game and recommend backing ´Under 2.5 Goals´ at a huge looking 6/5 with BetVictor and Ladbrokes.
We also suggest backing a couple of low scoring Correct Score bets with Betfred - who refund losing Correct Score bets on televised games that finish 1-1. Let’s take Chelsea 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines at 6/1 each, with that saver if it finishes 1-1 after 90 minutes.
As far as First Goalscorers are concerned, Andre Schurrle looks worth backing at a stand-out 7/1 with Ladbrokes (as short as 9/2 elsewhere), while Oscar, who tends to score more freely in Cup competitions for Chelsea, looks overpriced at 8/1 - also with Ladbrokes. Both players are more likely starters than most of those ahead of them in this market.
