Arsenal v Middlesbrough tips

February 14th, 2015

Arsenal play host to Middlesbrough this Sunday in the fifth round of the FA Cup and the game is live on BTSport1 from 4pm.

The Gunners can be backed at odds of 4/9 generally, while Boro are available at a best price of 7/1 with Bet365 and William Hill and the draw at 4/1 with Betfred.

It may well be that the market has over emphasised the chances of the home team here. True, Arsenal are in decent enough form - their 2-1 defeat against Spurs was their only loss in their last six games and they won the other five. However, Boro are unbeaten in 19 games - winning their last six - including beating Manchester City at the Etihad fair and square in the last round of this competition (they are just 1/2 with Bet365 to make a return to the Premier League next season).

Thus, although Arsenal have lost just one of their 40 FA Cup home league games, we feel it’s worth taking them on here - at the very least on the Asian Handicap with Boro getting a goal start at odds of 23/20 with Bet365. That means you win if Boro win or draw and get your money back if they lose by one goal - you only lose if Arsenal win by 2 goals or more.

We’ll also suggest backing the in-form Patrick Bamford, on-loan from Chelsea, to score the first goal at a huge 12/1 with Bet365 each way - he scored in midweek as well as scoring against Man City in the fourth round. Bet365 offer 1/3 odds for the 'place' in this market - if your player scores at any time in the game.

However, we also have to recommend the equally in-form Olivier Giroud - the Frenchman has scored 5 goals in his last 10 FA Cup games and is available at 7/2 with William Hill to score first (with the added value that if he scores 2nd instead, they will refund your stake).

Finally, we expect goals in this game and suggest a few high scoring Correct Score bets - the 2-2 draw is 22/1 with Ladbrokes, while we also like both 3-2 scorelines – the 3-2 home win is available at 28/1 and a 3-2 away win is a massive 80/1 - again both with Ladbrokes.
