Southampton v Liverpool tips

February 19th, 2015

Southampton host Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday in what could be a crucial game in the fight for a Champions League spot.

The Saints can be backed at best odds 13/8 with Betfred, while Liverpool are as big as 2/1 with BetVictor and the draw is available at 12/5 with Ladbrokes.

Southampton’s defence have been brilliant this season - conceding just 17 goals (the least of any side in the league). To put that in context, Tottenham - also vying for a Champions League spot - have conceded exactly twice as many (34).

Liverpool meanwhile have only conceded 16 goals on the road this season - only three sides have conceded fewer away from home - and with those stats firmly in mind the first suggested bet is on 'Under 2.5 Goals' at stand-out odds of 4/5 with Ladbrokes.

This bet would have won in four of Southampton’s last five home league games, plus all of Liverpool’s last four away league games and with so much potentially at stake, goals are likely to be at a premium once again.

On the same basis, we also like backing both 1-0 scorelines with Bet365, as not only are they offering the best odds on both results (1-0 at 15/2 and 0-1 at 17/2), but they also offer to refund losing Correct Score bets on all games that finish 0-0.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle has had a league high 73 shots this season and he should be backed at best odds of 11/2 with William Hill to score first and add to his eight league goals - especially as Hills refund losing First Goalscorer bets should your player score the second goal of the game - or if the game finishes 0-0.

Daniel Sturridge has returned from injury looking sharp, but looks plenty short enough at 9/2 away from home against a side that doesn’t concede too many and we prefer to back Raheem Sterling, as he has scored in both of his last two league games against Southampton and is a more appealing 7/1 with William Hill (with that money back if he scores second or the game finishes 0-0).
