Liverpool v Man City tips
Liverpool face Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, live on SkySports1 from midday.
Both sides lost in Europe in midweek - Liverpool went down 1-0 to Besiktas in Istanbul, while City lost 2-1 at home to Barca, but Manuel Pellegrini's side at least enjoyed a couple of extra days rest after the run-around given to them by Suarez, Messi and co. - while Liverpool will not have appreciated playing extra-time before their trip back from Turkey.
Indeed, the suspicion is that Brendan Rodgers will be privately delighted his side no longer has the distraction of the Europa League in their efforts to ensure a top 4 finish and win the FA Cup this season.
And his side have really started to fire in recent weeks - they have the best form of any Premier League side over the last 10 games (W8, D2), during which time they have scored 19 goals and conceded just 7 - even Mario Balotelli scored in their 3-2 win over Tottenham.
They also won this fixture against City 3-2 last season and given their recent revival we would have made them slight favourites to win at home on Sunday, especially as you have to go back to May 2003 for the last time that City won at Anfield. Liverpool have won 7 of their subsequent 11 league meetings here (D4) and thus a bet on them in the 'Draw No Bet' market at 6/5 with Betfred certainly appeals.
Alternatively you could back Liverpool (+0.5) on the Asian Handicap market at odds of 4/6 with BetVictor - this way you win so long as City don't.
Bookmakers are expecting more goals after last season's thriller, with 'Over 2.5 Goals' just 4/6 in places, but both sides have been strong defensively of late - Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 6 league games, while City have only conceded 13 on the road this season - second only to Southampton in that respect.
We therefore expect this game to be tight and instead suggest backing 'Under 2.5 Goals' at a stand-out 23/20 with BetVictor, while we also recommend backing both teams to win 1-0 with Betfred - who offer to refund losing Correct Score bets on all televised games that finish 1-1. The 1-0 home win is 11/1 with Betfred and the 0-1 away win 9/1.
Philippe Coutinho scored a screamer against Southampton last week and also scored the winner in this fixture last season. The in-form Brazilian didn't make the trip to Istanbul and the 5/1 offered by Coral in their Anytime Goalscorer market just has to be snapped up (3/1 elsewhere).
With regards to the First Goalscorer market, former City player Daniel Sturridge can be backed at 11/2 with William Hill (5/1 with most bookmakers), with the added value that Hills offer to refund losing First Goalscorer bets if your player scores the second goal instead - or if the game finishes 0-0.
On the same basis, David Silva, who scored twice against Newcastle last week and against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge recently, is available at 9/1 with William Hill - the Spaniard also scored in this fixture last season.
