Aston Villa v West Brom tips

March 4th, 2015

Aston Villa and West Brom do battle for a place into this year’s FA Cup semi-finals at Villa Park on Saturday and the game is live on BBC1 from 5.30pm.

It’s Villa who are just favoured by the bookies - you can get 9/5 with Bet365; while West Brom are a 19/10 shot with Coral and the draw is available at 11/5 with BetVictor.

The two sides have already met here this week in the Premier League, when a last minute Christian Benteke penalty gave Villa a much needed 2-1 victory. And Baggies fans will relish such an early opportunity for revenge, especially after Tim Sherwood rather patronisingly referred to them as “good little club” before the game.

That was the first 3 points collected by Villa after a winless run of 12 games (D3, L9) stretching back to a 1-0 defeat to West Brom in December - with a goal scored by former Villa player Craig Gardner (who can be backed at 13/2 with Bet365 to score in this game).

But we shouldn't ignore Villa’s amazingly good recent FA Cup home record - they have won 9 of their last 10 games in front of their own fans in this competition - and the fact that West Brom themselves have managed just one win at Villa Park since a 0-1 victory here in the Milk Cup back in 1982. Since then, they have made the short trip here 18 times (L11, D6).

With that in mind, we feel there is an angle with a couple of Correct Score bets with Betfred, who will refund losing stakes on all televised games that finish 1-1. We especially like the 2-1 Villa win (four 2-1’s in nine games at Villa Park between these sides) at 10/1, while we'll also suggest a 3-1 home win at 25/1.

Benteke is favourite to score first at no bigger than 11/2 with Coral, but at the prices we would rather back Gabby Agbonlahor who opened the scoring on Tuesday night - he can be backed each-way at a stand-out price of 8/1 with Paddy Power, who pay 1/3 odds for the 'place' in this market - if your player scores any of the first 5 goals.

Saido Berahino has scored 18 goals this season, including here on Tuesday, and also appeals at a stand-out 6/1 with Coral in this market.
